Herbs & Essential Oils for the average family.

Herbs & Essential Oils When I began my in-depth learning about essential oils (you can read why I became an aromatherapist here) I also noticed how well herbs and essential oils go together. They are most certainly two peas in a pod. Herbs are not the answer for everything just as essential oils aren’t the answer for everything. There is a delicate balance between the two for optimal health. There is so much information on Pinterest and the internet, most of which contradict one another, so it can be insanely difficult to know what is safe, what is healthy, what works best, and where to begin. The average mama doesn’t…

    Why use a carrier oil?

If you’ve ever Googled or searched on Pinterest (follow me by clicking that link) for an essential oil recipe or tip, you’re sure to have come across things that say “always dilute with a carrier oil,” “don’t use essential oils without a carrier oil,” “did you make sure you had a carrier oil?” But…what is a carrier oil?! Carrier oils are just that, oils. They come from seeds or nuts and are full of essential fatty acids, fat-soluble vitamins, and minerals. They help to dilute the essential oil. Oils are highly concentrated fluid that is distilled out of flowers, shrubs, leaves, roots, seeds, and trees. Let me say that again…highly…

    Featured Oil: Lavender

Featured Oil: Lavender Lavender is the first oil in my Featured Oil Series! We are focusing on this oil for a few reasons. It is the most commonly used essential oil. It is one of the most versatile oils. It is one of the safest oils for all who use it, including children. Lavender is from the Labiteae family which produces more essential oils than any other species. This entire family of essential oils is the safest family of plants. However, there are a few oils that should have a little extra precaution (as I have said in this post…essential oils are not risk-free). The oils like sage, basil, and…

What is considered an adverse reaction to an essential oil?

What is an essential oil adverse reaction? When I was first introduced to essential oils through one of the reps for an MLM essential oil company I had read some posts in a Facebook group about adverse reactions to essential oils. A few different people kept mentioning these things that were happening to them after starting to use essential oils, and the reps kept telling them that those were a coincidence or “completely normal reaction from the body trying something new.” That is an essential adverse reaction. That one kills me inside. If your body is reacting to something new you’ve added it’s because it is actually reacting, not just…

    Why I became an aromatherapist

My journey to becoming an aromatherapist About 5 years ago I started looking into more natural ways to treat issues at home. I have never really been a fan of doctors. I have asthma, and I was on medicine all the time as a child. Because I wanted something different for my kids, I started looking into essential oils. I had never really done anything more than google them. *This post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase from one of my links, I make a small commission at no extra charge to you. Thank you for supporting my blog.* A few years ago I had a friend who…

    What are essential oils?

A quick read about aromatherapy. Essential oils are a fragrant fluid distilled from shrubs, flowers, leaves, trees, roots, and seeds. These oils are called ‘essential’ because they play a vital role in the biological processes of the plant they are derived from. They carry the life-blood, intelligence, and vibrational energy that help to sustain the life of the plant while helping the humans that also use them. Essential oils are highly concentrated. It takes 5,000 pounds of rose petals to produce 1 pound of rose oil, and 250 pounds of lavender flowers to produce 1 pound of lavender oil, but it takes 3 tons of Melissa leaves/flowers to produce 1…
